The Iraqi Society for Microbiology held its first founding meeting on Thursday morning, December 11, 2025, at Al-Mustafa University, Baghdad, Conference Hall, in the presence of a number of founding members, researchers, and specialists in microbiology and life sciences.
This founding meeting aimed to activate the scientific role of the Society in supporting scientific research, promoting academic collaboration, exchanging expertise, and advancing research activities in the field of microbiology. The meeting also emphasized planning future scientific events, including workshops, seminars, and conferences, to enhance knowledge dissemination and strengthen scientific cooperation within Iraq and internationally. The meeting commenced with a welcoming address highlighting the importance of establishing the Society as a scientific platform that brings together researchers and specialists, supports young scientific talents, and serves the Iraqi academic community. The Society’s constitution and internal bylaws were reviewed, and its objectives and strategic plans for future activities were discussed. One of the key outcomes of the meeting was the election of the President of the Society and members of the Administrative Board, conducted in the presence of the founding members after confirming the legal quorum.
The voting process was carried out in a transparent and open manner, in accordance with the regulations governing scientific societies, reflecting the democratic and professional spirit of the Society’s members. Following the announcement of the election results, the newly elected Administrative Board members expressed their appreciation for the trust placed in them and affirmed their commitment to promoting a culture of scientific research, strengthening the Society’s institutional framework, and organizing training programs and scientific activities that contribute to advancing microbiology knowledge within the Iraqi academic community. The meeting concluded with the approval of an initial action plan for upcoming activities, including the organization of specialized workshops, the preparation of a national scientific symposium, and the enhancement of scientific partnerships with universities and research centers both inside and outside Iraq.
